Diplock Yard was a barrow yard from 1915 to 1975, hiring out hand trucks to “trotters”, or “rag-and-bone men, who went round the streets shouting and collecting clothes, furniture and metal to sell – instead of just stripping the church roof of lead!
It is rumoured to be the place where Brighton trunk murderer Tony Mancini hired a barrow to transport the body of his victim, Violette Kaye, in 1934.
It is now a farmers’ market.
